Where can I buy home CCTV that can record onto my computer?

My family are looking to buy a CCTV system that runs onto our computer. We’ve just had one delivered but after trying to install it, realise it is not Vista compatible.

Can anyone recommend us a website or product that is Vista compatible and will record what it films onto our PC?

Thanks for your help

Utilizing PTZ cameras for research and experimentation purposes

A well known institute for higher education and Research in the state of Virginia is a high-tech facility established about two years ago to act as a vehicle for economic and community renovation in a region which has been recently hit by the loss of thousands of manufacturing occupations.
Through supplying advanced learning curriculums, planned research and technology transfer seminars, and outreach and technology courses in that region of the state , the institute is helping the community’s workforce to become accustomed to an economy that is changing rapidly. The institute’s goals do not stop there. An important part of their aim to bring advanced technology and recruiting top-notch talent to the region deals with teaming up with neighboring universities and educational institutes, which utilize the facility as a research center. in addition to that,  the research institute is also  utilized as a meeting area, with conference areas and a convention hub accessible to lease.
Generally speaking, the common population of the facility is made of a mixture of student and faculty staff, conference attendees in addition to general members of the public. This type of heavy traffic requires a the presence of a wide-ranging network of security cameras, which are supplied by a technical security integration company. The company, which had set up an award-winning A/V system at the research institution on the past, decided on 37 Canon VB-C50iR network video devices PTZ camera for the security system of the institute.
According to the director of the security company due to the nature of its surroundings, the institute is generally open to any body who wishes to enter. Individuals can freely come in an out of it without any restrictions whatsoever. Not to mention that there are also access points and spaces inside the property that are effectively unsecured, but at the same time are vital to be surveyed and observed. The aim of the system is to supply visually surveillance and inspection for these unprotected regions, which consist of isolated access points, normally vacant corners and alleys in the research quarters and the education vicinities. without a doubt, it is essential to thoroughly supervise the entrances and exits at the building in its entirety.
The latest occurrences at one of the schools that the research institution is in association emphasize the importance of video security. Due to the twelve security cameras set up outside the research institution building in protective weather-tight cases in addition to an added twenty cameras dispersed all throughout the building, the students, educators as well as guests enjoy feelings of serenity and tranquility, due to relaxing that they are  they’re in a well supervised vicinity.

An Excellent status
The  NVS security cameras of Canon, together with the two-way audio-equipped VB-C50iR PTZ, supply the performance and flexibility that many of the security experts require for compact, remote video-monitoring deployments. These NVS cameras convey the visual footage over IP, thus enabling users to send high-quality video pictures through the Internet or a LAN setup. In addition to that, the users also have the option of viewing footages from multiple sites, having a large number of people view a single spot or a blend of the two options. This enables the video feed to be in numerous places all at the same time.
In addition to that, the camera includes such features as a complex 26x optical zoom lens, a 12x digital zoom and a 340K effective pixel CCD which supplies crisp 640- x 480-pixel resolution video with up to thirty frames per second. Not to mention that it also features a pan of +/- 170 degrees and tilt of +10/-90 degrees, which is compatible for motion tracking purposes. Last but not least, through utilizing a screen-monitoring software application, the PTZ modifications to the position of the camera can be managed remotely via the Internet too.
After learning about Canon’s excellent history of supplying enhanced pictures  through top-of-the-line optic technology, the selection was an obvious one for the security integration company, as was the three-step backlight management of the VB-C50iR, which can boost the brightness of shaded areas without affecting lighter regions.
the director of the security company pointed out that on top of that, the cameras had some characteristics that were exclusive in the market, for instance amending and compensating for light when recording footage of a door or window, so that one still has the ability to see the individual coming through the access point. That was a vital element in this deployment.

Easy to operate software applications
Furthermore, a surveillance software that was easy to operate was particularly important to the director of the security company.
He pointed out that individuals that are monitoring and utilizing the software are administrative-level personnel, who are not in any way IT professionals or experts in the security field. This was the primary reason to why the software needed to be able to be easily manageable by these groups of individuals, so they sensed that this particular implementation needed intuitiveness and easiness as a primary trait.
The security integrating company recently deployed Version 1.3 VK-64 network video recording software at the research institution. This deployment allows the VB-C50iR PTZ camera to operate over IP with all existing NVS security camera devices. The application supplies the capability to observe and record high-quality, full-motion video over IP from as many as sixty network security cameras on a solitary PC storage server. Due to the fact that this video is nonlinear, archiving and search functions are speedy and exact. The visual footage can be easily captured, administered, archived, and accessed by computer whenever needed, thus simplifying storage and review of the recorded material. In addition to that, the software also features a wide variety of selections, including camera management, which gives viewers an assortment of camera-adjustment options such as auto panel, white balance as well as light exposure settings.
The ability of an IP network  to expand was also critical to the success of the project, especially due to the fact that the research institution had plans to add additional buildings to their property.
the security company’s director also stated that it was essential that the network be based on IP technology. At the present time there are three other buildings in the process of being constructed and a fourth one in the planning phases. They had to settle on a system that they really could effortlessly add to and expand upon.
The setting up of the Canon VB-C50iR security cameras proceeded with relative ease, and the research institution has been very pleased with the outcomes. The scalability of the cameras and software, joint with the quality of the picture and ease of deployment, made an unforgettable impression on the manager of the security company.
He pointed out that the quality was simply  marvelous—the basic setting up of the networking infrastructure, and the features and operative procedures of the VB-C50iR camera utilities were also easy to deal with and maintain

The Wonder That Is The Linksys Wireless PTZ Internet Camera

Linksys is a popular company that produces top-of-the-line security cameras. They recently released the new the Wireless-G WVC200 PTZ Camera with Audio, more popularly known as the Linksys wireless PTZ Internet camera, and it’s been receiving good reviews.

This web-controlled wireless camera is an appealing and nicely appointed security cam that comes with a unique design and distinct features. From afar, it looks like a small astronaut with its clear astronaut-helmet bubble that protects the actual camera from dust and damage. On the front panel are the LCD display and Led lights, which display the IP address. The plastic bubble case and the IP address are what sets the Linksys wireless PTZ Internet camera apart from the thousands of Internet cameras in the market.

The camera also has practical features, such as a removable stand and holes on its flat back for easy set up. With the stand, you can place the camera on top of tables and shelves. Want it to hang on your wall instead? Just remove the stand, and the holes make it easy for you to mount it up. With its built-in server, you won’t need to connect the camera to a server of PC and up to 10 users can have access to the camera simultaneously.

Setup and Configuration

Setting up the Linksys wireless PTZ Internet camera is not so difficult, since it comes with a setup wizard. The first thing you need to do is to plug the camera into the router through the Ethernet. This is only required during the setup phase.

After doing so, you’ll find the camera on your network. Then you’ll see the camera setup page where you must assign a fixed IP address before you can choose between Infrastructure mode or Ad-Hoc, and Fixed IP or DHCP. After settling on your choice of settings, the final step is to transfer these setting to the camera. If you get more problems, you can easily contact Linksys Technical Support by opening a “live chat”.

Cam Quality

The Linksys wireless PTZ Internet camera uses Mpeg-4 and MJPEG video compression. The 640×480 video quality is good. The images appear smooth with minimum lag. You can also check the video settings where you’ll find that the video’s 25 frames per second is perfect, with the sound enabled, for over-the-net viewing.

The only downside to the picture quality is the off colors. Though you get smooth, clear pictures, the colors are inaccurate. But if you’re strictly using the camera for surveillance, color fidelity shouldn’t matter too much, right?

The cam also comes with a built-in microphone which provides clear audio recording. It also has a plug for an external microphone so you can choose to attach one when you want maximum audio quality.

Cam Features

The Linksys wireless PTZ Internet camera comes with good pan, tilt, and zoom capabilities. What’s even better about it is that you can create position and which you can cycle at preset intervals or choose such options as “on-image pan tilt” which allows you to click on any point on the video and have the camera focus on that position.

Another cool feature on the Linksys wireless PTZ Internet camera is its motion-detector, which prompts the camera to record a short video clip every time it detects movement within its range, and send the clip to your email for notification.

The Benefits of Cctv Cameras

CCTV is the abbreviation for closed circuit television and it refers to transmitting a signal to specific monitors. The sets of monitors that receive the signal from a CCTV camera are specific and their number is limited. Unlike broadcast television, a CCTV security camera doesn’t transmit the signal openly. The most common feature of CCTV is that of being used for surveillance, and , therefore CCTV security cameras are most likely to be found in crowded places or places where security is a must, such as airports, banks, ATMs, military facilities, casinos, etc. A CCTV camera can also be found in a corner shop or a gas station, if the owner chooses to install one in order to ensure protection for customers.

But CCTV cameras are not limited to watching airports and banks. They can also be installed in environments that are not comfortable for people, or with the purpose to record a process that is observed and controlled from a control room. The conditions under which some industrial processes take place are dangerous for people and it is for this type of processes that CCTV cameras are designed. The law sometimes requires the installation of such CCTV cameras for industrial processes that take place inside reactors or inside the facilities that produce nuclear fuel.

A CCTV camera can now be found inside taxis as well, with the purpose to deter violence against the taxi driver. CCTV cameras are used in police vans when these are on a surveillance mission.

Although their primary purpose is that of ensuring security, the CCTV security cameras have caused an on-going debate, because of the fact that they are increasingly used in public places. The issue is that a CCTV camera violates the right to privacy, which some people consider more important than their own security.

CCTV cameras where initially used inside government facilities and when they began to be used outside these facilities, it was primarily for security inside banks. However, the system has experienced such a growth and the expenses of purchase and installation of a CCTV camera have dropped so much that it is now affordable and advisable for individuals to have their own CCTV security camera inside their homes. CCTV security cameras are now used successfully in parking lots and statistics show that car crime was significantly reduced after the installation of such cameras. However, as far as the other institutions are concerned, the installation of a CCTV security camera has yet to prove its benefits regarding crime deterring. Some communities have embraced this security system, others haven’t. In some cities, there are CCTV cameras everywhere, providing surveillance on estates, car parks, stations and so on. In other countries, CCTV security cameras are not so common because they meet strong opposition due to their lack of privacy.

Eventually it has been agreed that CCTV cameras don’t have a spectacular effect as far as crime prevention is concerned, especially if we consider the fact that these cameras often become targets of violence themselves. However, the effect on detecting criminals is the most considerable and the images caught by CCTV security cameras can be used to prosecute such criminals.

CCTV cameras can also be installed for safety, not just for security. Such cameras will be found in amusements parks, to make sure that no one is endangered when a ride starts, or on subway trains, to confirm that no person will be injured by the closing of the doors.

Traffic congestion and accidents are often noticed with the help of a CCTV camera, which is part of the system that monitors traffic. The registration plates of a car are sometimes read with the aid of a CCTV camera and the owner is fined in case of misconduct in traffic.
